I remember reading about Matthew Shepard back in 1998. It was horrifying. I'm glad he's not forgotten and we should always remember how poorly people were treated, even as only as far back as 1998.
I'm not sure how so much time has passed since the late 90s, but here we are. And how easily we do forget about those who have been lost or taken from us violently. For every Matthew Shepard who is remembered, how many others have been left behind?
