I’m so excited for you, Robin! I grew up on summer road trips. We tent camped. Let me know if you’re driving through Austin, NV on Hwy 50, The Loneliest Road in America, and I will meet you at the Austin Found Saloon. It’s quite an interesting little place. Anyway, enjoy your adventure!
You’re so right. We get in the way of ourselves as adults but should find ways to infuse that magic back in our lives as much as possible. Happy and safe travels!!
I live and travel full-time in an RV, so cross-country trips are my jam! And my youngest is currently studying to be a Geologist at the University of Colorado Boulder. :) Have an amazing trip!
My mom made these hand drawn BINGO cards for us that had things like tanker truck (dairy), silo, tanker truck (gas), falling apart house, appliances in yard etc. I wish I had them because she was a very good artist (I'm barely able to do anything passable freehand). We used those cards for years, the first year we drove from Louisville to New England and did Philadelphia, Boston, Cape Cod, Provincetown and I can't remember where else. Plymouth. She would send away proofs of purchase all year long for little toys and then wrap them in gift wrap and we'd get to pick one each time we won. She always got stuff for each of us (we were between 4, 8, and 14 years old so not interested in the same things). Another year we did the Gulf Coast with Huntsville, Biloxi and New Orleans. I've driven from Louisville to Lake Tahoe and back as an adult and I loved almost every minute of it.
Oh this brings back memories. My parents were also fans of the Wholesome And Educational Road Trip. I hope you find good places to see and stop and have enough time to be well rested. And we can welcome your friend to the PNW when they get here.
Hope you have a good road trip! I really love Bryce, Zion, Arches, those national parks are spectacular. To answer your question, I guess I've had more opportunity than most to drive across country but I haven't done it (yet). I've enjoyed and been grateful for road trips out West. That's so cool that you are driving all the way from southeast to northeast. Hope it goes really well!

I was on highway 50 on a road trip last summer! "More mountains than cars." Found a nice hot springs somewhere. An interesting and remote place!
That’s us!
