Each of the mini-essays I’m publishing for the month of June are part of a creative challenge to share joy during Pride. You can find out more in the link below. You can even participate, if you’d like!
Wild Lion*esses Pride from Jay
25. Euphoria
Euphoria is feeling tiny beard hairs brushing against my pillowcase as I drift off to sleep at night.
Euphoria is a shirt with nothing under it.
Euphoria is singing the bass line to songs I used to sing soprano or alto to.
Euphoria is being invited to the guys’ golf game (even though I don’t play golf).
Euphoria is feeling weird about almost going into the women’s restroom and finally knowing why.
Euphoria is being called “dad” by my kids when they don’t even know I can hear them.
Euphoria is a thousand little ah-ha moments of recognition.
Euphoria is choosing something in pink and not worrying about what it might mean.
Euphoria is finally fitting my own name.
Euphoria is topless swimming.
Euphoria is a button-up flannel shirt.
Euphoria is trying out beard balm.
Euphoria is painting my nails with my kids.
Euphoria is laughing with my whole belly.
Your trans friend,
Robin
Thank you for this beautiful post. I will think of you the next time I laugh with my belly or hear the grandkids call my partner he.
I love everything about this.
